Training weekend
The artful carer: dance & somatic movement education for the parkinson’s community.
This training weekend has something for everyone. It’s of value for dance and movement artists, therapists already working with the Parkinson’s community, and those new to this practice. We will explore the dance/movement practitioner as an artful carer who uses their skills, knowledge, and experience to support participants living with Parkinson’s (and their carers) whilst maintaining self-care.
Day One: Group practice. Explore what it means to be an artful carer in the Parkinson’s dance community. Learn to structure and pace a class so that it flows. Explore the benefits of facilitator-led choreography, improvisation, and focused movement explorations.
Day Two: Home Performance. An introductory day exploring one to one home-based dance and movement practice. Follow a new framework of practice developed through my doctoral research. Support peoples activities of daily living through sensory-motor engagement, touch-based and place-based practices.
